Things to Do in Walvis Bay on a Foggy or Windy Day
Fog and wind are part of life on the Namibian coast. Mornings are often grey, and some afternoons are too windy for the water. But a change in the weather doesn’t have to spoil your day. Here are some ideas.
If It’s Foggy
Coastal fog usually lifts by late morning. Boat trips often still go ahead, and the fog can make the bay feel mysterious and atmospheric.
- Have a slow breakfast: Enjoy coffee at La Vida Coffee House while you wait for it to clear.
- Go birdwatching: The lagoon is lovely in soft light, and the flamingos don’t mind the fog.
- Head inland: Fog rarely reaches far inland, so a trip to Dune 7 may be in the sunshine.
If It’s Windy
Strong wind can cancel boat and kayak trips for safety. If that happens:
- Enjoy a long lunch: Settle in at Anchors Restaurant or Dockside Seafood & Grill.
- Go shopping: Browse gifts at The Jettyshoppe.
- Watch sport or relax with a drink: Head to Pirates Wreck Sports Bar & Grill.
- Explore the town’s history: Visit historic sights like the old Rhenish Mission Church. Read about Walvis Bay’s history
Plan Around the Weather
Mornings are usually calmer than afternoons, so book water activities early. If your trip is cancelled, ask your operator about moving to another day.
